Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop - 1968
Sorry, this product is sold out!
Here’s a classic and very rare Gibson Les Paul Std Goldtop from 1968. These were the first ever reissue of a Les Paul Standard. This particular one is of the “First Series” of "Goldtops" released in July 1968. These were made in small numbers and are thus rarely seen. They have a heap of features, apart from Two P-90's, Stop Tailpiece, Tune-O-Matic bridge, that I’ll attempt to list. They are:
Long tenon neck joint
Crown headstock inlay
Gibson headstock logo with dot above the i
“Les Paul” engraved into the truss rod cover
One piece neck
One piece body
Serial number is in the 501 series
High strap button
Straight wall cavity route
Lightweight tailpiece Gibson and ABR patent number bridge
A guitar like this one, that has had an honest gigging life, always has a few issues and here they are: The headstock has a chip of wood missing right where the last 3 digits of the serial number were. (I’m told they were 301 by the owner who has owned it for 44 years). Likewise, there’s a small crack repair on each side of the neck about an inch and a half where it’s taken a knock but it was repaired over 44 year ago and hasn’t moved since. It’s had changed tuners, jack plate, pickguard and rhythm/treble ring, a refret at some stage and it doesn’t have its original case anymore as it fell apart. Apart from all that, it’s one of the most resonant and lively playing Les Paul's I have ever played. It has a fat neck that is reminiscent of early 50’s guitars, plays like a dream and sounds absolutely amazing! It’s rare and it’s very, very cool! Comes with a HSC. (More pics to come).
