According to the Maton Museum website only 122 of these were made between 1965-1967, which makes this guitar (and, let’s face it, most old Maton’s) rare!  This one features a beautiful slim neck; maybe when they made these they’d played a 1961 Les Paul/SG; a very similar neck. The pickups sound great and they look great too with their fine chrome covers. The neck pickup is sweet as a button, the bridge has got a little bit of bite to it so it sounds pretty gnarly and, it’s a perfect combination of the two in the middle position.  Action is great, frets are around 80%; plenty of meat and no grooves in them.  Machine heads have been changed to Gibson Deluxe and work well. Trem arm is missing. The body shows a few scratches and knocks but no breaks or repairs.  Pickguard is the correct shape but homemade; looks good.  The fatter body on this one gives the guitar an almost Gretsch-like sound with plenty of body resonance. I’m enjoying this guitar not plugged in as it sounds really good acoustically; in fact, I could take the rest of the day off and sit in the sun writing songs, but alas, there’s work to do.  The headstock decal is super-cool too! Overall, this is a rare and very useable instrument that will make its new owner very happy.  Comes in a TKL acoustic case.
